They were a good, solidly built, well-designed piano. They do have a beautiful tone, and the BBC struck a deal where Challen would supply them with most of their pianos.
Are Challen pianos still made?
Challen pianos were established on 1804. They were taken over by Barratt & Robinson in 1971 and again by Broadwood & Sons in 1984. A Malaysian piano manufacturer started building pianos with the Challen name in 1996. Challen are quite often available second hand and we regularly get them in stock.
