If you are a victim of a crime on a cruise ship, first and foremost contact the ship’s security office or medical staff if you need medical assistance. If the crime occurs in port, while you are off the ship, contact local law enforcement officials, the cruise line and the nearest U.S. embassy.

Can passengers get off cruise ship without an excursion?

Nope. The choice is totally yours. You can go ashore on a tour, explore the cruise port on your own or stay onboard and relax by the pool, book a (usually discounted on port days) spa treatment or take advantage of other activities on your ship during the day.

Do cruise ships have a jail on board?

There’s a special place, however, for those who commit serious crimes at sea — the ship’s jail, or “brig” in nautical terms. These steel rooms are located on one of the bottom decks of the vessel, usually near the security office. And if you end up down there, you won’t be staying there for the duration of the cruise.

Do you have to pay NCL service charge?

For bookings made on or after April 1, 2019, that prepay their service charges before their sail date: $18 USD per person per day for The Haven and Suites. $15 USD per person per day for all other stateroom types.

Is there police on a cruise ship?

Unlike airplanes with Federal Marshals, cruise ships have no police authorities aboard. The few security guards on the ships are loyal to their employer who pays their salary – not to the passenger. When a crime occurs, the cruise lines first notify their risk managements departments and their defense lawyers.

Is it mandatory to purchase or available shore excursion when joining a cruise?

Do you have to buy shore excursions on a cruise? In most cases, you don’t need to book a shore excursion in order to explore a port of call. You can simply walk off the ship and stroll into town or catch a cab to take you wherever you want to go. This rule has a few exceptions.

What happens if you don’t make it back to the cruise ship?

Most cruise lines have port agents stationed in the port area to assist if your ship has left without you. In cases when cruisers are late returning to the vessel, the ship’s crew will often remove the passengers’ essential items — passports, cell phones and medication — from the ship to leave with the port agents.

Are there cops on cruise ships?

Can you opt out of gratuities on NCL?

Norwegian’s website states “While you should not feel obligated to offer a gratuity, all of our staff are encouraged to “go the extra mile,” so they are permitted to accept cash gratuities for exceptional or outstanding service if you care to offer them.”
